God has called us into service locally, regionally and globally.
Just as the needs of this world are many, so too are the opportunities
to become involved in our outreach ministries.
Our summer WIHN week begins June 25. We will begin recruiting volunteers the first week in June. Please see the Local Missions section of this page for more information about the Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network.
We will also have a summer trip to the Ronald McDonald House in Durham, NC for the purposes of providing a meal for those families staying at the house while their child undergoes treatment at Duke Hospitals. The date will be posted here and published in our newsletter and bulletins.
WIHN, Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network - hosts
four to five families each week at local churches. WIHN is
the only program in Wake County that keeps the family unit
intact while they are homeless. Host churches provide transportation
to the WIHN Day Center and back to the church, nutritious
meals, a safe place to spend the evening, a comfortable room
to sleep, and the friendly assurance that we care for them.

Meals on Wheels - provide monthly meals to the elderly,
handicapped and homebound citizens of Wake County. Our teams
service the downtown area and the North Raleigh area. In addition
to our gifts of time and service, we also contribute financially

North Raleigh Ministries - is a place where families
in crisis living in the North Raleigh zip codes could turn
for Christian encouragement, financial assistance and food.
North Raleigh UMC has joined the ministry as a sponsoring member,
and staffs the Ministry each Monday with a full set of volunteers,
provides financial support to the ministry in the form of
administrative expenses and benevolent care funds and contributes
food to the food pantry each month with our food barrel collections.

Criminal Justice and Mercy Ministries - is involved
with all persons who have been affected by crime. It reaches
far beyond inmates who are incarcerated in prisons, jails
or institutions. It reaches out to both the offender and the
offended. It reaches out to all victims of crime including
the children of the victim’s family as well as the offender.
At NRUMC, we actively support
this ministry through the following activities:
Disciple Bible Outreach Ministry - offers a weekly opportunity
to witness as disciples by teaching/assisting the study of God’s
love through bible study within the North Carolina prison system
as well as the Federal Prison system. This ministry is based
on the Disciple Bible program Becoming Disciples Through

Project Angel Tree - offers annual support of children
of inmates through Prison Fellowship. This charity involves
Christmas gifts to children of those incarcerated as well as
family follow-up as a result of relationships built from visit
and gift delivery.
In addition to the ministries we support with our time and
talent, we also support local missions with our financial
gifts. These include: The Methodist Retirement Home,
Raleigh Board of Missions, Urban Ministries,
Hope House, and Triangle Reading Service.
The Appalachia Service Project - is a Christian ministry, open to all people, that addresses the housing needs of Central Appalachia. North Raleigh UMC sends adult teams to work with this mission organization twice each year, one weekend in the fall and one weekend in the spring. Teams repair homes to fulfill the "warm, safe and dry" purpose of the Appalachia Service Project. For more information about ASP, visit the web-site at http://www.asphome.org;

Faith Ministry - began in 1994 to extend a Christian hand of hope and love to the Mexican people in Reynosa and Miguel Aleman, Mexico. Housing, medical, educational and spiritual needs are met with God's help every day by both volunteers and staff at Faith Ministry. In November, 2006, North Raleigh will send our fourth mission team to Reynosa, Mexico to work with Faith Ministry in building homes for families in need. Our teams have built five homes in the Reynosa area over the last three years, and we anticipate building two or three more this year. Our team of 15 - 20 builds concrete block houses measuring 12'x24' in one week, working with area residents in Reynosa. Wake
Interfaith Hospitality Network

Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network,
(WIHN) provides support services, including counseling,
assistance in finding jobs and housing for the homeless
families in Wake County. Some of the families were
sleeping in their cars when they entered the program.
Other families saw their homes burned, lost everything,
and had nowhere to go.
A paid director and case manager at
the Day Center provide the support services. Up to
ten families are selected by the staff to be in the
program at a time. For homeless families, this assistance
is the only program that keeps families intact. No
other program will allow a teenage boy to stay with
his mother or a husband and wife stay together.
Since June 1994, NRUMC hosted the
WIHN guests for many weeks. Paul writes in Romans
12:13 that we should; "Share with God's people
who are in need. Practice hospitality." At
NRUMC, we provide a bedroom, three meals a day and
relaxing lounge in the evening for the WIHN guests.
About 100 volunteer positions need
to be filled for a week to be successful. The mission
committee wishes to give a big Thank You to
the volunteers and the members of the WIHN Coordinator
Committee for serving so faithfully.
