Growing in God's grace

Weekend Lunchbox Ministry

Healthy meals...helping kids

Did you know that 81,000 children in the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle service area receive free and reduced lunches each school day?

But what about weekends?

The Food Shuttle creates partnerships with some local schools and volunteers to deliver backpacks filled with nutritious, non-perishable food to selected children for weekends. NRUMC is one of these partnerships.

How can I help?

You can help feed hungry children by volunteering to fill backpacks with the following food items.

  • Milk - 3 boxes (shelf stable)
  • Meat/Beans - 2 cans (avoid Vienna sausage & Spam)
  • Fruit - 1 can (cans only, no soft cups)
  • .Juice - 2 boxes (100% juice only)
  • Veggies - 2 cans (14 oz. or smaller)
  • Breakfast - 2 items (oatmeal, grits, cereal, cereal bars)
  • Noodles - 2 items (Ramen, Cup-O-Noodle, Easy Mac, soup)
  • Snacks - 2 items (granola bars, dried fruit, fruit snacks, popcorn, graham crackers, crackers, goldfish)
