Growing in God's grace

Preschool Staff & Curriculum

The teachers of North Raleigh United Methodist Preschool recognize many of their “graduates” who are now excelling in elementary, middle and high school, college and beyond! Our staff is highly qualified and experienced, and dedicated to making the preschool experience interesting, challenging and age-appropriate. Teacher training is ongoing, and each staff person is first-aid and CPR trained. This continuing education assures that teachers can assess students and help children take full advantage of their learning abilities.

Teachers follow guidelines established by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

The NRUMP curriculum is based upon a document entitled Foundation: Early Learning Standards for North Carolina Preschoolers and Strategies for Guiding Their Success. This document was formed under the N.C. Department of Public Instruction.

Our curriculum is built upon Big Idea Themes and is literacy based. We build upon language through books, stories, poems, nursery rhymes, etc. The curriculum within the theme is emergent, whereby we take our cues from the children and adapt our plans based upon those cues.

The lesson plans include a working knowledge of child development and individual children. The plans provide for a balance of active/quiet activities; teacher versus child directed. We offer art experiences with a focus on process rather than product. The lesson plans include cooking, science, math, story, language, music, movement and multicultural experiences.
